INDIGENOUS INSTITUTE of the AMERICAS
INSTITUTO INDIGENA de las AMERICAS
- The Native American House at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign was established in 2003 as a center for American Indian Studies, Student Support, and Cultural Programming open to all Illinois students and community members. In bringing together a variety of courses, lectures, conferences, and other events, we strive to develop interdisciplinary teaching and research, host culturally enriching programs, and provide essential student services that highlight the diversity of cultures and histories of Native individuals, communities, and nations.
- Ameican Indian Graduate Center - Our missions is to build, promote, and honor self-sustaining American Indian and Alaska Native communities through education and leadership.
- http://www.lakhota.org -The effort to rescue the Lakota language continues to gain momentum. People from across the world are becoming aware of the problem and are contributing to help save this precious linguistic resource and way of life. We have been fortunate to receive the assistance of some renowned musicians and artists in the last several weeks, including Peter Maffay, Robby Romero, and Kevin Locke. Their deep concern for the future of the language is a great inspiration!

- Potlach then and Now - Some countries call them Potlatches, Wopida and some just "giveaway". They are important to us as indigenous people. Some people spend a year or longer getting ready for them! During the potlatch there are great feasts and many gifts are distributed. Many foods are eaten during the feasts that might seem strange to you.
- Tribes of the Bering Straight - The Bering Straits Native Association (BSNA) was formed in 1967 as an association of the Native Villages in the Bering Straits Region. The Association was created to advocate for the passage of a Native Land Claims bill. During this time, BSNA received their first grant from the Office of Economic Opportunity within the Johnson Administration. After the passage of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act in 1971, BSNA organized Kawerak as the regional non-profit corporation (incorporated under State Law in 1973) to provide services throughout the Bering Straits Region. Today, Kawerak contracts with the state and federal government to provide services to residents of the Bering Strait Region, 75% of whom are Eskimo, Aleut or American Indian, descent. Kawerak's organizational goal is to assist Alaska Native people and their governing bodies to take control of their future. With programs ranging from education to housing, and natural resource management to economic development, Kawerak seeks to improve the Region's social, economic, educational, cultural and political conditions. Kawerak is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of the president (or designee) of the IRA or traditional Councils, two elder representatives and a representative from the regional health care provider. Kawerak reorganized in 2006 and we now have four divisions.
